The Roaring Fork Valley surrounding Aspen is a landscape rich with characters who call this singular place home. In the Stories of the Valley workshops, students were the taught the basics of photography and audio recording and then sent out to collect and share the stories of five well-known, vibrant locals, attempting to capture their passions, their struggles, their relationships to the community and the landscape surrounding the.

Daily shooting assignments were used to investigate how photographic choices of framing, point of view and selective moments convey emotion and stories. Students also explored the ethics of documentary work and the process of establishing rapport with subjects as they gathered content and then edited that content into compelling visual narratives, learning the basics of multimedia production and ultimately producing a final DVD piece that was shown to the Anderson Ranch community.
